The female equivalent to a domestic male servant or hallboy. The lowest in rank amongst the staff of maids in a grand house or hotel like that of Downton Abbey. Often the youngest female or newbie. Usually hired for crappy kitchen duty and dinner prep. In the 1966 Beatles tune, Eleanor Rigby, it is said that she was a scullery maid.
